The Launch STEM Carers project took the DeLaura Middle School students and their Satellite High mentors to the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) on February 27. At the Astronaut Memorial Foundation education facility, the girls engaged in programming a sphero to move along five different points on a Mars map. Afterwards, they visited the Shuttle Atlantis facility and rode the Shuttle Launch Experience. Then, the girls experienced the 3D IMAX movie Journey to Space.
As a treat for being such outstanding mentors, the high school girls, who are members of the Science Research Group at Satellite High, toured some of the Kennedy Space Center Research areas. They were shown some of the research that NASA is doing as part of future exploration to the Moon and to Mars. All of the girls at both DeLaura and Satellite had an amazing time!
