Three NASA retirees—two being members of the NALFL Education Committee—started this volunteer initiative in 2015 as an outreach effort to inspire girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). STEM professionals provide female students with mentoring and hands-on experiences to help them excel in STEM-related careers and fields of study. As of March 2018, Launch STEM Careers (LSC) is a project of the NASA Alumni League Florida Chapter.
The LSC project includes an Elementary + Middle School Program, High School Program, and University + College Program.
